Design gives culture tension. Food closes the distance.
Among the six special municipalities of Taiwan, Taoyuan is the youngest — and the only one whose population is still growing. That youthfulness isn't just a demographic statistic. It shows up in the city's ideas: forward-thinking, bold, and passionately engaged with design and lived culture. As a bilingual emcee with a design background, every time I work on an exhibition or cultural event in Taoyuan, what I look forward to most is watching local stories collide with young designers' vision and produce something genuinely luminous.
On August 15, 2026, I was invited to host the opening ceremony of the Taoyuan Youth Affairs Bureau's special exhibition, Shared Ground, Shared Tables. This wasn't a formal, protocol-heavy ceremony. It felt more like a warm gathering around a table — officials, distinguished guests, and the young design teams from the Taoyuan Design Library, all sitting together to witness the moment when traditional food culture and contemporary aesthetics meet and speak the same language.
Exhibition Highlights
Using food as its entry point and design as its language, the exhibition transformed Taoyuan's diverse ethnic food memories into a visually arresting contemporary showcase.
As someone with a design background who holds visual and aesthetic standards quite seriously, watching young designers weave the texture of Taiwanese food culture seamlessly into exhibition details — the typography, the material choices, the spatial rhythm — moved me every single time.
Hosting Notes
For a ceremony like this — intimate, interactive, design-forward — the emcee's core value is closing the gap between people and creating a warm, textured space for genuine dialogue.
